How it works

Convert switches an image between PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF, with a quality slider, lossless WebP or AVIF, and a background colour picker for flattening transparency onto JPG. Every conversion runs on the same request, entirely in memory, and produces a downloadable file with no intermediate storage step.

HEIC and HEIF input — the format iPhones save photos in by default — is decoded in your browser before the file reaches our server, and is a Pro feature. AVIF output is also Pro, and that limit is enforced on the server so it cannot be bypassed from the browser.

Pro's Web Pair export takes one source image and produces AVIF, WebP and JPG versions at 480, 960, 1440 and 1920 pixels wide, packaged into a single ZIP alongside copy-paste <picture> and next/image code snippets ready to drop into a site.

Questions

Can PiqPair convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. HEIC and HEIF input is decoded in your browser first, then sent on for conversion — decoding is a Pro feature, so it does not slow down or limit free conversions between the other formats.

Does PiqPair upload my photos to convert them?

Conversion runs on our server but only in memory for the length of your request. Bytes are never written to disk and no filename is kept, so nothing about the file is stored once it's converted.

Why is AVIF output a Pro feature?

AVIF encoding is a Pro feature enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface — a request for AVIF output from a non-Pro account is rejected with a 403 regardless of what the browser sends.

What is Web Pair export?

A Pro feature that takes one image and outputs AVIF, WebP and JPG at 480, 960, 1440 and 1920 pixels wide in a single ZIP, with ready-to-paste <picture> and next/image markup included for your site.

Can I convert a transparent PNG to JPG?

Yes. JPG has no transparency channel, so Convert lets you pick a background colour to flatten onto before conversion — white and black presets are provided, along with a custom colour picker for anything else.

Is lossless WebP or AVIF actually lossless?

Yes. Turning on lossless mode for WebP or AVIF disables the quality slider and encodes the image without discarding any data, at the cost of a larger file than an equivalent lossy conversion.
